Shipping Supervisor

Department: Shipping - NY
Location: Richmond Hill, NY

We're hiring a skilled and experience Shipping Dept. Supervisor for our Factory in Queens

 

Job Summary: Learn and be able to demonstrate understanding of and competence in (1) all
Alphapointe and departmental policies, procedures, and supervisor techniques; (2) ISO
9001:2008 quality control requirements; (3) Human Resources and other reporting policies and
procedures; (4) Manage all shipping, receiving, material handling, warehousing, and traffic
functions for all of Alphapointe’s products; (5) Responsible for accuracy of all assigned
activities; (6) Responsible for all safety and cleanliness in all areas; (7) Material handling
policies and procedures; (8) Training, evaluating, and motivating, all sighted, visually impaired,
direct and indirect labor employees.
Essential Functions:
• Comply with company Personnel, Safety, Material Handling and ISO 9001:2008 quality
control policies and procedures. Make recommendations for changes and implement as
appropriate.
• Thoroughly understand all product, packaging, quality and labeling requirements of all of
the items in the department.
• Establish “commitment to quality” as the most important priority for everyone in the
department.
• Assure 100% accuracy of all receiving functions:
o Physical counts of deliveries against purchase order quantities
o Open boxes to assure that what is in the box matches what is written on the box.
Request immediate assistance from Production Supervisor, Purchasing,
Production Manager and Director of Operation as appropriate if have concerns.
o All receiving paperwork are filled out accurately and forwarded as directed.
o Immediate notification to purchasing of discrepancies, and isolation of
questionable deliveries for corrective action.
• Assure 100% accuracy of all shipping functions:
o Physical counts of shipments against pick tickets
o Confirmation that carton labels are accurate and legible
o All shipping paperwork are filled out accurately and forwarded as directed
o Immediate notification to Customer Service, Production Manager or Director of
Operations of any discrepancies
• Assure that finished goods are ready to be moved from red zone to shipping area have
accurate written quantities and signed off by Quality Inspector
• Assure that all finished goods inventory in warehouse areas are promptly and efficiently
stored and written on ticket with the actual rack locations.
• Assure that all traffic functions are handled accurately, with maximum efficiency, and on
time


Shipping
o Selection of carriers
o Routing of all outbound orders for most efficient and cost effective delivery based
on customers’ desired delivery dates
o Routing of all GSA orders according to government instructions. Report all
problems to Customer Service and GSA Traffic Manager as appropriate.
o Issue routing instructions to suppliers to provide most cost efficient and timely
delivery of raw materials.
o Schedule all Alphapointe drivers’ stops, including pick-ups and deliveries, to
meet target dates and times.
o Monitor performances of all carriers, meet with account execs, recommend any
appropriate changes to Production Manager, and implement changes on an
efficient and timely basis
o Make appointments with the key Alphapointe customers – NYCHA, DCAS,
NYCTA, etc., - so that Alphapointe meets all requested delivery schedules.
• Recommend and implement all production schedules and plans to meet department’s
needs. Be prepared to work overtime as needed.
• Recommend for hire, help train, evaluate, promote and/or recommend for termination all
blind and sighted direct and indirect employees. Implement and document agreed upon
changes.
• Monitor productivity of all workers in the department. Understand their strengths and
weaknesses. Assure that they are properly trained and have needed safety and ergonomic
equipment. Make recommendations for change and implement as directed.
• Submit written performance evaluations as requested, accurately and on time.
• Submit written reports on any employee’s performance and/or behavioral problems to
Manager, Human Resources and Director of Rehabilitation Services accurately and on a
timely basis.
• Work closely with the Supervisors, Director of Rehabilitation Services and the
Production Manager to assure that every visually impaired employee has whatever
appropriate low vision devices, jigs and other production and/or mobility
accommodations to assure maximum productivity.
• Monitor productivity of all production and quality control equipment and request
maintenance and/or repairs as needed. Work with mechanics and/or Industrial
Engineering as appropriate. Notify Manager of problems that will affect ability to meet
production schedules or have significant budget implications.
• Maintain good communications with all levels of staff.
• Perform all other activities as requested by Controller.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
• High school graduate
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Basic knowledge of computer functions.
• Current forklift operator’s certificate.
